Dr Olivia-Joan Iiyambo
Dr Olivia-Joan Iiyambo is a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist.
Her journey in the medical field began at the University of Pretoria where she completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree and qualified in 2012.
After completing her undergraduate studies, she pursued her passion for Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of the Witwatersrand and completed her Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and concurrently became a Fellow of the College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists at the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa.
She has been practising as an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in the state hospital across University of Witwatersrand academic complex at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, where she is actively involved in the training of both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of medicine.
She is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of women across Africa. She is a published author and the most recent publication in the International Journal of Gynaecology and Obstetrics emulates this. This research experience gave her a deeper understanding of the complex social, economic, and environmental factors that impact the health of African women.
She is proud of her education and the experiences that have shaped her career and shows skill in management of antenatal, peripartum and postpartum care as well as contraception and support of the fertility and reproductive journey of women at all ages.
She is an art and culture enthusiast, a culinary fundi and a keen traveller with a vast curiosity of Africa.
